How To Download Facebook Live Video

Facebook Live is a great way to stay connected with friends and family in real time. It allows you to share the most precious and exciting moments in your life from wedding ceremonies to political rallies. Your Facebook connections can watch the event live, or if they’re not around, they can view a saved recording retroactively.

Can You Download a Facebook Live Video?

The answer to that is a tentative yes. Although some sites may claim that you can download videos streamed by your friends, it doesn’t appear that there’s any legitimate way to download someone else’s videos. That being said, there may be a workaround, which we’ll share with you in a moment.

You can download your own videos, but again there’s a caveat. Different sites seem to disagree on the exact process for doing this. We’ve shared a few different methods below, culled from the annals of the internet. One of these should work for you when trying to download your own archived videos.

Method One: Using Basic Options

  1. Go to your Facebook profile.
  2. Locate your video. It should be in your profile or feed. Check the More tab under your profile.
  3. Make the video pop up. According to some sources, you do this by clicking on the video’s time stamp. This is located above the video if you’re looking at your feed. However, if you go to your video collection in your profile, you can just click on the video thumbnail.
  4. Click on the “more dots.” These three dots should be in the upper right hand corner of the video window. It may also appear as a downward facing arrow.
  5. This should bring up a drop-down list of options. Click Download video.
  6. Select where you want to video to be saved.

Method Two: Some Fancy URL Work

It starts roughly the same way.

  4. Now things get a little fancy. Go to the URL and change the “www” to an “m.”
  5. Hit Enter.
  6. This takes you to a special video view. Right click on the video to reach more options.
  7. Click Save As.

Method 3: Just In Case Things Weren’t Complicated Enough

Some people don’t seem to see the same options (like those three dots we mentioned under Method One). If the above two methods didn’t get the job done, try this alternative.

  4. Click on the time stamp again to bring up a wider video view.
  5. Look beneath the video to the list of options on the right hand side. Click Download SD or Download HD.
  6. Choose the location.

You Could Always Cheat

If you still can’t figure out how to download your video or you want to try and save someone else’s, just get a screen capture app that allows you to record your own screen. There are some easy to use apps out there that are free to download. Just choose the screen capture window, play the video, and hit record.
