How to Download Instagram Stories on iPhone

Instagram stories were a definite game-changer in the world of social media. Although the idea had its origin in Instagram’s competition, Snapchat, no one cares to remember this. It’s because Instagram has made a brilliant move in introducing stories.

But stories disappear after a few hours. Usually forever. You could save your own stories in highlights, but that still isn’t downloading them. If you want to download stories to your iPhone, you’re going to have to take a different approach.

How to Save Individual Stories

Saving a story is actually very easy. Go ahead, add that story. Now, go to the homepage and swipe the stories (circular images) all the way to the left. The leftmost circular image is going to be your own profile photo, representing your stories. Tap here and you’ll get to see all your currently active stories. Alternatively, go to your Instagram profile and tap your profile photo to view your stories.

Once you’ve found the story that you want to save, tap the three-dot icon in the lower-right corner of the screen. Here, you’ll find the Save… option. Tap it. Depending on whether your story is a photo or a video, you’ll get to select Save Photo or Save Video. Tap these buttons and your entire story will be saved to Photos. The story timer and all the information usually located in the upper part of the story screen won’t be visible.

A Save Story option will also be available. This does something else.

How to Save All Current Stories

Using the Save Story option will save all your currently available stories. This option will make a video of your current stories, whether they’re photos or videos. The timing will be identical to the one when you are looking at the stories on Instagram.

Like with Save Photo or Save Video, no content other than the actual stories will be visible. It’s just going to be a video of your entire story experience.

Saving Stories from Other People

Unfortunately, if someone doesn’t save their story as a part of their highlights collection, you will never be able to access that story again post the 24 hours expiry. The most straightforward method here is, well, taking a screenshot. Of course, this depends on the iOS or iPhone model.

For example, to take a screenshot on older iPhones up to iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, you need to press the lock button on the right side of the phone, and the central, main button on the front. However, the newer full-screen ones use the lock button and the volume up button simultaneously.

So, that’s how you screenshot a story. But what if you want a story saved, without all the Instagram info (who posted it, when it was posted, and the send message option)? Well, if you tap and hold the story in the middle of the screen, every detail will disappear, leaving you with a clear picture of the story. Now, take a screenshot.

Oh, but what if you want to save a video story? Well, you’ve got the trusty Screen Recording option. To make this feature available, go to the Settings app on the home screen, navigate to Control Center, and then select Customize Controls. Find Screen Recording on the list and tap the + sign next to it.

Now, swipe up from the bottom of the screen on older iPhones or swipe down from the upper-right screen corner. Now, find and press the Screen Recording icon, resembling a REC symbol. This will record your screen until you stop the recording by pressing the red line at the top of the screen.

Downloading Stories to iPhone

If you want to save your own stories on Instagram, the app makes it easy. If you want to do it for other people’s stories, you’re either going to have to use the screenshot function or the Screen Recording feature on your iPhone.

Did you manage to download the story/stories that you wanted to? Do you have an alternative method? By all means, let us know in the comments below and please ask any questions on your mind.
