How To Edit or Change a Snapchat Story After Posting

Besides snaps that you can send to other users, stories are the most important aspect of the Snapchat experience. Each story is a picture or a video that you post publicly on your account, and it lasts for 24 hours after its posting. Unfortunately, there is no way to edit a story after it has been posted, as you can only share it or delete it. However, Snapchat lets you edit what’s called a Memory.

What Are Memories and How to Edit Them?

Memories consist of all the stories and snaps that you have saved. By saving a post as a Memory, you get to view it alongside other photos and videos on your device’s storage space. Most importantly, you can edit Memories and publish them as snaps, stories, or messages for individual people. Here’s how:

Open Snapchat.
If you’re not at the Camera screen already, go there by tapping the big circular button at the bottom of the screen.
To access your Memories, tap the button beside the Shutter button. Alternatively, you can swipe up anywhere on the screen.
In the Memories menu, choose if you’d like to view all the images saved on your device, or just a certain group of images, such as only stories or only snaps.
Tap the image you would like to edit.
Hold your finger on the screen until a menu appears, asking what you’d like to do with the image or video.
In the menu that follows, choose the Edit Snap option.
This will take you to editing mode. Let your imagination run wild!

Note: By choosing Export Snap, you can send it to someone using an app other than Snapchat, while the Send Snap option lets you easily send it to someone on Snapchat, or post it as a story.

Editing Options

Obviously, there are lots of things you could do with your stories. You can trim videos, as well as split them. All the other options can be used for both videos and photos. Snapchat allows you to add filters the same way you would add them on Instagram, going through the collection by swiping left and right. A vertical toolbar on the right side of the screen will also appear, allowing you to:

Type something. You can choose the color and style of the text. You can also open the Type menu by just tapping on the screen, as long as you don’t tap on an object you’ve made while editing. Tapping on a text object you’ve already made lets you make changes to it.
Change an object’s size or rotate it. Do this by holding it while also using another finger. Swipe in one direction to zoom in or out, or swipe in a circular motion to rotate. This goes for all objects, not just textual ones.
You can choose a color, but this function can also serve as an emoji brush, letting you put lots of emojis wherever you want at once. Besides this, you can also change the brush size.
Add a sticker to your snap. Besides the usual options, such as recently used stickers, a search option, etc., you can also add a sticker you’ve just made by tapping the scissors icon. This is also a good way to add a single emoji and tweak it.
Make a sticker out of a part of an image of your choice. Do this by selecting an object with the scissors selected. Hold to make a selection and release it when you’re done.

After releasing the selection, the newly made sticker will show up on your screen instantly. You can delete it by tapping and holding it, then taking it to the trash can that appears later. You can delete any other object this way, too.
Add up to one URL to your snap.
The clock icon lets you set how long your snap stays on the screen once opened. You can either assign a limit ranging between a second and ten seconds or just remove the limit.

Since the addition of the Memories feature, Snapchat has become more powerful and user-friendly than it once was. This function gives it an edge over Instagram, as it easily lets you save pictures, while also offering much more to do with your uploads.
