What Does 'Get Close' Mean on Snapchat?

Social media affects the way we speak, giving our words new meanings. “Like” was just an ordinary verb before Facebook, right? Almost every day, new abbreviations and expressions are being created, especially when it comes to writing.

In this respect, Snapchat has its own abbreviations and slang. You’ve finally learned AMOSC means Add Me on Snapchat. But has anyone told you lately that they’d like to get close? If you weren’t sure what they meant, you’re in the right place to find out.

What Does It Mean to Get Close?

Generally, this expression means that a Snapchat user wants to start talking and get to know you better. In fact, you may interpret this in two ways.

Someone may want to become closer friends, or usually something more than that, like start a romantic relationship. If they tell you they want to get close, maybe they’d like you to share some stories you wouldn’t share with just an acquaintance.

Before you do get close with someone, take care of your privacy and safety. Don’t send snaps you may regret later, especially if you’ve never met that user in person. They may not have bad intentions, of course, but why not take precautionary measures?

Other than getting to know someone by chatting about personal stuff, you can also consider them your “best friend” on Snapchat. What does this mean? If you chat and exchange snaps with them frequently, they’ll be automatically added to your Best Friends list. You can also choose to share some private stories and snaps with them too.

Best Friends on Snapchat

You can’t really create this list on your own, as Snapchat manages it for you. Best friends are Snapchat users who you communicate with the most. This refers both to snaps and private chats.

Only you can see this list, and eight of your most often contacted friends will feature there. The list isn’t set in stone – it will change from time to time, but you don’t have the option of reordering, adding or removing someone from the list.

You’ll also be able to see cute emojis next to your friends’ names.

To see your Best Friends list, do the following:

  1. Open Snapchat on your smartphone.
  2. Take a snap and tap on the Send To button in the lower right corner of the screen to send the snap.
  3. On the next screen, you’ll see the Best Friends list.

Another way is to launch the Snapchat app on your phone and then swipe to the right to see the friends list. Here you’ll see Best friends as well.
