How To Reset Password in the Line Chat App

Line chat app has a few security features that keep your account almost bulletproof. Even though your Line account cannot easily get hacked, it’s still advisable to reset/update your password from time to time.

Changing the password on Line is pretty simple, though you should know that you cannot see/check the password in case you forget it. And if you wish to transfer the account to a new smartphone, you’ll also need the Line password.

Changing the Password

Launch Line and tap on the three horizontal dots to access the More menu. Hit the gear icon on the top right to enter Settings and select Account.

Tap Password under your email address and provide the passcode for your smartphone – fingerprint, face ID, or pattern lock. Type your new password (between 6 and 20 characters), confirm it, and hit OK when you finish.

Once you finish, a quick confirmation notification drops down in the same window. Since you cannot preview the password, it’s advisable to write it down or use some keychain tool that remembers the password for you.

Did You Forget the Password?

It’s easy to reset the Line password in case you forget it. But you need to have a registered email address. To register your address, navigate to “Email registration” in the Account menu and type the full address into the designated field. You’ll get a confirmation code and a quick confirmation notification once you enter the code. Now, you can proceed with the “Forgot your password?” process.

Navigate to “Email registration” again. Here is the path for quick reference:

More (three dots) > Settings > Accounts > Email registration

Tap the email address, select “Forgot your password”, and hit OK to confirm. The Line wizard will take you through the password change process, step by step.

Note: You should know that this method might not work on some versions of Line.

What Happens When You Transfer the Account?

There is no need to worry if you’ve forgotten the password and want to transfer the account. It is easy to set up the account on a different device without your password. And again, you need a registered email for this to work.

When you initiate the transfer, tap Start, type in your phone number, and hit the arrow to proceed. You’ll get an SMS with a verification code, type that code into the designated field, and select “Yes, that’s my account” to confirm.

Select “Forgot your password?” in the following window and type the registered email address. You’ll receive an email with a link and instructions on how to set a new password.

Quick Reminder

The “Yes, transfer my account” option might appear during the set-up process. Tap on it and select either “Log in with previous email address” or “Log in with previous number.” Afterward, you’ll be asked to provide the necessary registration information.

Troubleshooting Password Retrieval Emails

There are several reasons you might have problems with the password retrieval email. The first line of defense is checking whether you’ve entered the right email and if you’ve entered it correctly. Sometimes the email may end up in Spam or Junk, so you should check those folders as well.

Tip: Make sure to add line.me to the list of domains you can receive emails from.

Regardless of the reason (transfer or forgot password), you can request the retrieval email only once or twice every 24 hours. And the email address needs to comply with RFC standards. For example, emails that start with a hyphen or have a dot in front of @ don’t comply.

Trick: Link your Facebook account to Line. This way you can use Facebook to transfer the Line account to a new device.

Can You Reset Line Phone Number?

Unfortunately, there is no way to reset the Line phone number. To use a different number, you need to uninstall the app and then reinstall it. This action deletes your chat history, so you might want to back up the important chats first. Once you reinstall the app, use the Line User Login to go back to your account.

I need to delete the line stickers that I made 5 years ago but I don’t remember the email and password and “forgot email and password” dosen’t work.

Hello,

I am running into some issues with LINE Social Networking app on an iPad.
My 85-year-old father accidentally deleted the app off his iPad and here is the problem we run into:

– His iPad OS update can only go up to version 12.5.5
– LINE new download version (12.3.0) requires iOS version 13.0 or higher
– We may need to buy a new iPad that can support this but if we can find a LINE version that would run on older iOS versions that would be great.
– The bigger problem is that the mobile phone # that he registered with LINE has been canceled for a few years now and he doesn’t remember if he registered with an email account and password or not. We can’t go back to confirm either since LINE app has already been uninstalled.

Does anyone have any recommendations for this?

I had to download the app again (new phone) and now tried to log in. I forgot my password but I am not getting an email when I try ‘forgot your password”. I also tried different email addresses but I am not getting anything. Help!

Question: how can I have a Password Reset email to be send to me?
