Microphone Not Working in Snapchat – What To Do

Uploading videos to Snapchat just doesn’t have the same impact if the sound is off or missing. If your microphone is acting up, it might be best to just keep sending still snaps.

Microphone Not Working in Snapchat - What To Do

But first, you can try some of the following fixes in order to continue posting awesome stories of you, your friends, and your adventures.

Check Volume Settings

Bring up the volume control panel on your smartphone and make sure that the microphone slider is on maximum volume.

On some smartphones, you may also have to set the media volume slider to the maximum level. There are plenty of user reports that indicate a correlation between the media volume and the recording volume in Snapchat.

Restart the App

Sometimes, the issues arise at startup. One of the easiest potential fixes is to close the app, wait for a few seconds, and then launch it again.

Restart the Phone

For iPhone users:

  1. Press and hold either the Top or Side button
  2. Wait for the Power Off slider to appear
  3. Drag the slider to turn off the device
  4. Press and hold the same two buttons to turn the phone on

For Android users:

  1. Press and hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons
  2. Wait for the screen to go dark and release the buttons
  3. Wait for the OS to load again

Note that the process may differ on some Android devices. But popular Android smartphones such as those made by Samsung, LG, or Google should all allow this button combination.

Reinstall the App

For iPhone users:

  1. Tap and hold the Snapchat icon
  2. Tap the X icon
  3. Tap Delete

Quick note. Don’t press too hard on the screen if you have an iPhone newer than 6s. Pressing too hard will just bring up the Quick Actions menu instead of the X icon you’re looking for.

For Android users:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Apps
  3. Find Snapchat
  4. Select Delete or Uninstall

Note that the steps are basically the same with very few differences depending on your device.

Check for Updates

If you turn off automatic updates on your smartphone, you can run into a world of trouble, especially with third-party apps.

Check to see if you have the latest version of Snapchat installed. Also, check to see if your phone’s OS is up to date. Installing the latest updates for both the app and your phone might just fix your microphone bugs.

Clean the Microphone

Don’t immediately assume that the microphone has stopped working entirely. There’s always a chance that it’s simply not performing well enough to capture your audio.

Many users complain about their Snapchat videos not being recorded with a satisfactory volume. This can be caused by too much dirt and grime building up in the microphone. Use either a can of compressed air or a soft cotton swab to remove any unwanted particles. This should remove most of the interference and boost your recording levels.

Launch a Ticket

Apps often go through a series of small updates which fix some bugs but also cause new ones. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always come with disclaimers from the app developers that notify users of potential problems.

It’s quite possible that a new update messed with the microphone feature for certain smartphones or OS versions. Don’t discount the option of sending a ticket to the app developers.

Use the Snapchat support page to fill out the form and notify them of your problem. Be as detailed as possible within the allotted word count.

Voice Your Thoughts

Having microphone issues on smartphones is nothing new. There are just too many things that can go wrong both with the software and the hardware. And, whenever you’re dealing with a third party app such as Snapchat, it can be difficult to pinpoint the exact root of the problem.

Hopefully, these tips will help you fully enjoy Snapchat once again. Do you know of other fixes that could help Snapchat users with audio issues?
