How to Restore WhatsApp Messages on iPhone

For many people, WhatsApp is the most important communication tool around. It can be used to chat with friends and family and to send important photos or videos.

But accidents happen. If you’ve deleted some important WhatsApp messages from your iPhone, you might be wondering if there’s a way to restore them. To find out if that’s possible, keep reading.

Using iCloud to Backup WhatsApp Messages

iPhone users are in luck because iCloud allows them to backup WhatsApp messages. Backing up messages to iCloud is especially useful if users don’t have an iTunes backup. In that respect, we’d really like to point out the importance of backing up messages. By doing so, you’ll be able to restore them if you accidentally delete them or if malware attacks your phone.

First, you’ll have to log into your iCloud account. Here’s how:

  1. Unlock your iPhone and navigate to “Settings”.
  2. Look for “Sign in to your iPhone” and tap on it.
  3. Sign in using your Apple ID. The username’s the same as the email address.
  4. The signing-in will start and take a few minutes.
  5. When asked, you’ll have to type your iPhone’s four-digit code.
  6. Once you sign in, you’ll see your name at the top of the “Settings”.

However, if you’re already signed in, you can skip this step altogether and proceed to backing up messages on iCloud. This is how to do it:

  1. Unlock your iPhone and navigate to “WhatsApp”.
  2. Find “Chats” and tap on it.
  3. Now you’ll see “Chats backup”. Click on that.
  4. Next, you’ll see “Back up now” in blue. Tap on it.

In “Chats backup” window, you’ll see the current backup size in your iCloud and date of your last backup. You can also choose to enable “Automatic backup” and schedule your monthly or weekly backups.

One important thing to know: Your videos aren’t going to be backed up in iCloud because they’d use up all the space. You can enable this function, but if you have only 5GB available, better skip this step.
