How to Get the Time Sticker in Snapchat

Finally, Snapchat has listened to user feedback and changed the way time stickers work in their app. Before, the time effect used to be a filter you could add by swiping left or right when making a Snap. This was a very neat, useful geofilter, but it had one big flaw.

It used to obstruct the view, ruining your Snap. Now, time filters are actually time stickers, which can easily be moved around the screen, to get them out of the way. Read on to learn how to get the time sticker and reposition it.

Get Snapchat

Before we get into details, be sure to download or update the latest version of the Snapchat app on your Android device or iPhone. Just follow the links to the official app store of your respective platform, and you’ll be all set to start sending Snaps right away!

Snapchat is an incredibly fun app that makes messaging much more interesting and interactive than on other social media platforms. Geofilters were always a big part of that, and two of the basic options are the location and time filter.

People used them all the time but, like we mentioned above, they were flawed. Since they were filters, you could either enable or disable them. But there was no way to move them in the background of your photo or video. The result was an obstructed view of your gorgeous Snap, which made many users avoid the geofilters entirely.

Using the Time Sticker on Snapchat

There’s no need to get the time sticker, you already have it if you updated the app on your device. People who’ve used Snapchat for a long time are certainly confused by this change, which is totally understandable.

That’s why we decided to give you a short tutorial on using the new time sticker on Snapchat. Follow these instructions:

  1. Open Snapchat on your device and sign in if you haven’t already. Snapchat will remember you next time and the login process will be automated.
  2. Launch the Snapchat app on your Android or iPhone.
  3. Tap on the big circle icon at the bottom of your screen to take a new Snap. You can long-press it to start recording video instead of a photo. Snapchat will use your front or back camera depending on your choice. To switch between the two cameras, tap on the rectangular icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
  4. After you have taken a Snap, tap on the Stickers icon, which should be in the top-right corner of your screen (in between the pen and the scissors icons).
  5. Tap on the time effect, which should be the first effect in the top-left corner of the screen.
  6. The effect will be instantly added to your Snap, and you can share the Snap with your friends or further edit it.

Other GeoFilters on Snapchat

You’ve probably noticed that there are other filters that were turned into stickers as well. You can also add the location sticker using the above method, as well as mention (tag) people, or add your Snapchat QR code.

Frankly, this change is welcome. It’s now easier to add this information to your Snaps without having to sacrifice the visibility of your photo or video. Put simply, it’s up to you where you want to position the stickers.

How to Position Snapchat Stickers

Some people might think that stickers work the same as geofilters, but that’s not true. The key difference is that you can reposition stickers wherever you please. Here’s how:

  1. Open Snapchat on your phone.
  2. Take a photo or short video Snap.
  3. Add a sticker (such as the time sticker).
  4. Use your thumb and index finger to “select” and pull the sticker from both sides. You can change its size this way, but also move it away from the mainframe of the photo. When satisfied, just let go of the sticker, and lift your fingers.

This may feel a little temperamental until you get used to it, but it’s very useful to know. We suggest placing your stickers to the side, below, or above your Snap target. As long as it’s not in the middle, it’s sure to look good.

What Time Is It?

The time sticker is one of the best stickers on Snapchat. You often want to inform your friends when the Snap was taken, so this sticker is perfect. Geofilters were just as good, but, like we said, they couldn’t be moved around the screen.

Now you can easily reposition them, and keep your Snap subject center of attention, no matter if you’re taking a selfie, a photo of an object, or pet. More importantly, it’s awesome that the Snapchat team listens to user feedback.

How do you like this change? Adding filters is much easier now, don’t you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
