How to Change Eye Color in Tik Tok

With more than a billion downloads, TikTok is on its way to become one of the most popular social media platforms on the planet. So, what is the secret of TikTok’s smashing success?

If you take a closer look at the app’s features, it’s not hard to understand where the popularity comes from. Aside from funny videos of people lip syncing and dancing to famous hits, TikTok features an array of Snapchat-like filters/effects to enhance your online appearance.

And the effect that caught your eye, so to speak, is the eye color change. Here you’ll find out how to use this effect and tips and trick for funny TikTok selfies are also included.

Changing Eye Color on TikTok

The eye color change is not rocket science on TikTok, though you need to make sure that the app is up to date. To do it, access Play or App Store on your smartphone, go to Updates and check if there is one for TikTok.

With the update out of the way, go back to the app and hit the “plus” icon to add photo or video. You can access the eye-change effect by tapping on the TikTok Quiz icon at the bottom left. Make sure you are in the “Popular” tab and swipe down until you see a smiley with pretty blue eyes.

As soon as you tap on the cute smiley your eyes will change color. Although seemingly simple, a serious AR (augmented reality) algorithm powers this filter. To be precise, the color of your eyes will remain changed even if you move the phone far away from your face or squint. In addition, shaking your phone changes the color from blue to purple, green, yellow, and the final result is freakishly realistic.

Other Cool Effects

TikTok effects menu has a bunch of hearts-flying-from-your-head and piggy-face effects. But this is something you can also get on Snapchat. On the other hand, face changes and similar AR tricks are a true TikTok highlight.

Since these effects don’t seem to have a specific name we’ll give them a generic name based on what they do. Check out the top picks below.

Stretchy Face

This one hides behind a blue icon with a couple of hands on it. When you tap on it, 6 points appear on your face and you get to stretch them whichever way you want.

Instant Makeup

The Instant Makeup effect is represented by a smiley with a pair of very long eyelashes. The moment you select the effect your face will get some blush, nice red lipstick, and some shadow. But the real trick happens when you shake the phone, try it out for yourself.

Ripples

As suggested by the name, this effect creates linear ripples over your selfie and you can trigger it by tapping on the smushy smiley. A cool thing about this one is that it can be used for photos and videos you take with the back-facing camera.

Mini Mes

This one is a favorite for sure. Tapping on the icon that looks like blue eggs in a basket turns your selfie into an army of miniature selfies. And what’s best about it, you can create a full-on video with the effect, lip syncing and all.

Eye Color Special

If you are looking for a way to scare your TikTok friends, tap on the devil smiley. Your eyes will turn pitch black, and again this effect is surprisingly realistic, especially from afar.

Grumpy Giant

Tap on the long and plump face iconto turn your selfie it into a giant-like figure. Smallish eyes, huge nose, and a pronounced jawline – the appearance just seems grumpy from the get-go. And this might be another one to scare off your TikTok friends/followers.

Ghost

Tapping on the out-of-focus smiley allows you to turn your selfie into an apparition. To be precise, one image remains on the screen and you can move around it with your face slightly washed out.

A Few Notes on TikTok

Regardless of the TikTok effect, you can record a video or take a picture with it. Swiping left or right allows you to apply an image filter over the entire picture/video and get a creative TikTok post.

If there is a downward arrow on the effect icon this means you need to download it first. Tap once to download and tap the second time to apply the effect. For now, you cannot use two effects at the same time, but this might change with a future update.

Get Those Killer Eyes

Judging by the available options and the number of users, TikTok is slowly becoming a super social media app. As such, it gives Snapchat a real run for the money in terms of effect and filter quality. And don’t forget there is the lip syncing element which is always fun to watch.
