7 App Alternatives to Tinder

If you read our piece on Tinder and thought you might like to get in on the action, that’s great. But what if you didn’t like the look or feel of Tinder? Are there alternatives? Yes, of course there are. As soon as the huge potential and popularity of Tinder was realized, many other companies wanted in on the action. Not all of them are created equal however which is why we have put together ‘Seven app alternatives to Tinder’.

The gamification of dating has transformed how we meet the opposite sex. Gone are the laborious profiles or spending hours trying to find a girl in your area. Now you just create a short, snappy profile and the app does the rest. Swipe up, down, left or right and the rest is up to you.

App alternatives to Tinder

So here are a few alternatives to Tinder. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. There is bound to be one here that is just perfect for you. So in no particular order:

1. Coffee Meets Bagel!

Coffee Meets Bagel! is a neat idea and is allegedly the only dating app with more girls than boys. It is slower and more considered than Tinder and will take more effort to get results. But this is quality over quantity which counts for a lot. You get one match per day sent to your phone and like, or not, as you see fit.

2. Happn

Happn is useful if you live in the city. It uses your cellphone GPS to check your location and will then highlight anyone you may have passed or ‘crossed paths with’. You then swipe and if you both like each other, you can chat. Not so useful if you live in the country though.

3. Hinge

Hinge uses your Facebook network and expands upon it to widen your reach. The usual swiping thing happens and you can get to talk to the person you liked. It is all a bit close to home and cheaters need not apply as your Facebook relationship status is also shared.

4. OkCupid

OkCupid mixes old school internet dating with app gaminess. You can filter using questions, profile settings and more. You can also search for ‘the one’ as well as just a hookup. The same feature is also present, get a profile card, swipe to like, or not and get to chat, or not.

5. How About We

How About We is a somewhat refined dating app if that were possible. It has a light approach designed for a more mature view of dating. There aren’t as many people using this app as some of the others, but quality over quantity wins the day here too.

6. Plenty of Fish

Plenty of Fish has strength in numbers, which can work as much against it as for it. There is a lot of chaff on here that makes finding the wheat somewhat of a challenge. Once you do though, the app makes it easy to talk and more if you desire.

7. Grindr

Grindr is specifically designed for those of alternative persuasion and has enjoyed huge success. It works the same as Tinder and it should do as it was here first. It is a little buggy though, but aside from that, it is simple to use and very effective.
