The Best Tinder Gold Settings [A Complete Guide]

If you’re a Tinder user, you likely quickly realized that the only way you’re really going to get a date is if you pay. The free version works fine and is good for some but very limited in other ways. Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold are where the real game is. In return for a bit of cash each month you can use Tinder to its fullest potential.

That doesn’t guarantee you a date. Far from it. It does provide a few more tools that increase your chances though.

This isn’t a piece trying to convince you to subscribe to Tinder. If the free version works for you then there’s not need to change. What this piece is, is an explanation of what Tinder Gold subscriptions offer and how it can increase your chances of getting a date.

Tinder Gold

Tinder Gold costs $5 a month more than Tinder Plus but you need the Plus subscription to get gold. So you don’t just pay $5 a month, you have to pay the $9.99 for Plus and then Gold on top, so $14.99 a month. That’s not cheap for an app but dating isn’t cheap either.

Tinder Plus gives you:

  • Unlimited swipes
  • Rewind
  • Five Super Likes per day
  • Passport
  • 1 Boost per month

Unlimited swipes – Speaks for itself. You pays your money and gets your unlimited swipes rather than the limited number with the free app.

Rewind – Accidentally swiped left when you meant to go right? Rewind lets you undo your last swipe.

Five Super Likes per day – Really like someone? Don’t mind risking being creepy? Super Like them to put yourself front and center of their stack.

Passport – Passport lets you change your location for if you’re traveling and hide your location.

1 Boost per month – A Boost places you at the top of people’s profile stacks in the hope of getting you noticed. You can buy them as an individual consumable but you get one free per month with Tinder Plus.

Tinder Plus also gives you an ad-free experience, the ability to hide your age, to control who sees you and influence who you see.

Tinder Gold adds:

  • Likes You
  • Top Picks

Likes You – A special page that shows you who has already swiped right on you.

Top Picks – Top Picks is a curated list the Tinder algorithm thinks you might like.

Currently Tinder Gold only has these two features. More may be planned, or not as enough people seem to think these two worth the extra $5 a month.

Tinder Gold Likes You

Of the two features, I think Likes You is worth the money alone in certain circumstances. If you live in a busy metro area it might take you days or weeks to find someone you like from the hundreds or thousands of profiles you might see. If you’re hot enough for girls to want to swipe right on, this also makes sense.

You will see a profile picture at the top of your main Tinder page with a circle of gold around it. Select this and you should see a grid of profile pics. If you’re hot, you should see a page full of them. If you’re normal, you might see a few. Either way, these profiles are of people who have already swiped right on you.

This is a huge time saver. Instead of playing lucky dip with the algorithm, you can skip right to those already primed to want to talk or date.

Tinder Gold Top Picks

Top Picks is a curated list of profiles chosen by Tinder because they match criteria or mentions in your own profile. Hover over a profile and you may see a descriptor like ‘Adventurer’ or something. You can sift through these as you would your normal stack.

Personally, I see no value in Top Picks. The selection seems very similar to the random selection and are of the same mixed quality. If it could refine the picks to my type for example, that would be amazing. A list full of brown-eyed, dark haired girls would be ideal for me, but it doesn’t. Whatever your personal criteria might be, Top Picks doesn’t seem to use it.

Is Tinder Gold worth it?

Is Tinder Gold worth the extra $5? That depends on where you live and how you use Tinder. In my opinion, Top Picks doesn’t work but Likes You works very well. As long as you live in a busy city with lots of Tinder users, your money can save you a lot of swiping and take you right to those who already like you. For me, that alone is worth the $15. Your mileage may vary though.
