How to 'Extend' Snaps on Snapchat

The Snapchat camera is much loved for allowing you to create snaps using its dual camera and filters. With Snapchat Plus, you can unlock add-ons and access new features. Extend Snap is one such premium option that allows you to extend pictures taken using the Snapchat camera. So, if you keep disapproving of good snaps for being too close to your face, you must try this new tool. Here is how!

What is the Extend Snap Tool in Snapchat?

Extend Snap is a Snapchat Plus exclusive feature that leverages artificial intelligence to extend snaps. Like My AI on Snapchat, Extend Snap is powered by Open AI and allows you to extend a picture by simply zooming out. Being a new feature, it may not get you picture-perfect results, but there is still a way to get the most out of it for your selfies, which we will discuss later in the article.

Remember, this Extend Snap is all about extending the background for Snapchat images and has nothing to do with the extending video snaps option, which enables you to create longer Snapchat videos.

How to Extend a Snap on Snapchat

The Extend Snap tool is only available for Snapchat Plus users. If you are on the free plan, you can sign up for a 7-day free trial of Snapchat+ to try out the feature.

  1. Open Snapchat on your Android or iPhone.
  2. Click a snap using the camera button.
  3. Tap the extend icon from the list of options on the right.

How to Get Better Results With Snapchat Image Extender

Snapchat’s Image Extender is an experimental feature with its fair share of flaws. It can mess up image details when the image background is complex or has a few objects to expand upon. However, you can always undo changes and retry expanding the image to see how AI tries to improve the result with each attempt.

You can use it for images with little or no detailing in the background. For example, the image extender did a fair job when extending the picture we took as an example in the last section because it had a simple wooden background, and the tool just had to extend the edges.

Ideally, you can use this feature to zoom out images with less detailing and retry expanding them a couple of times to refine the results. This way, the tool can add to the background, giving you a clean and real-looking snap. You can leverage it to extend selfies that seem too close to the camera. Again, ensure your selfies have a transparent background to avoid inconsistency in the image.

Is Snapchat AI Image Extender Any Good

Being an experimental feature, Snapchat’s AI image extender needs much more polishing to be called a premium feature. Depending on the complexity of the background, it might deliver mixed results. If you are already a Snapchat+ user, there is no harm in playing around with this tool. But don’t bother subscribing to Snapchat+ to try out the Extend Snap option.
