How to Change Your TikTok Username Without Waiting 30 Days
So many social media platforms, so many accounts, and so many usernames. Every new app you try involves coming up with a fresh, catchy username that represents you faithfully. Too much pressure, right? Now you’ve downloaded the TikTok app and typed in the first thing you could think of.
It’s been a week and you absolutely hate your username. But, TikTok won’t let you change it yet. What now?
The TikTok Username Predicament
Oh, what cruel punishment is this? You’re not trying to run a scam or fool anybody online, you just want a new username. You’re probably thinking: “There must be a way around this rule”. The truth is, there isn’t. Sure, you can scour the internet looking for a solution, but you’ll probably end up scrolling through a lot of useless information.
The most common advice is to change the date and time stamp in your smartphone to 30 days ahead. There are a lot of users who swear by it. But, that’s not enough to do the trick, and it might confuse other apps on your phone. Reminders will start popping up; apps that track other activities will start asking if you’re all right. All of which will remind you just how much we depend on smart devices these days. And why, most importantly, we need them to run smoothly.
You Have to Be Patient
Easier said than done. It’s like a penance for not having a great idea, a flash of inspiration. But, TikTok uses this rule to minimize cyberbullying and weed out suspicious accounts. Genuine people who made a mistake just have to wait a while. The same goes for those who like getting creative with their usernames and switch them up often. Here are some of the things you can do while you wait for the 30 days to expire:
Poll Test Usernames
You probably have your next username lined up, but while you wait, why not do a little survey among friends? Give them a few suggestions and see what lands. Or do a Twitter poll to get even a better sample. It doesn’t mean you have to listen to others when it comes to something personal like a username. But, it doesn’t hurt to see what others associate with you the most.
Write Down the Usernames
Thirty days isn’t as long as it might seem, but it gives you plenty of time to think. You might get that unexpected flash of inspiration when you’re watching a movie or a TV show. Get all your ideas down on paper (or, who are we kidding, in your smartphone!) and when the time comes, you’ll have plenty of options.
Just Don’t Think About It
When the time comes, you’ll know. You’re settled on the username you wanted two seconds after you typed in the one you have now. Good. Set a reminder for when the 30-day period expires, and hop to it without hesitation. And if you change your mind again, or make a typo, well, there’s another 30 days wait up ahead.
How Do You Change TikTok Username
In the meantime, why not go over what you need to do to change your TikTok username?
- Launch your TikTok app.
- Tap the icon that labeled as “Me” in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Click on “Edit Profile”.
- Tap “Username” and then proceed to type in your new username.
- Tap “Save” and that’s all there is to it.
Now you get to enjoy posting fun and creative TikTok videos under a new username. Who knows, maybe that name becomes one people will use outside the TikTok world.
30-Day Rule Is Here to Stay
Unless TikTok makes some changes, the 30-day rule is here and all users have to abide by it. Even though most social media platforms don’t prohibit changing your username as often as you like, it’s different for TikTok. The majority of the most active users are very young. The majority in their early teens. It stands to reason why some extra precaution is required.
Granted, you’re eager to change your TikTok username – it’s understandable. And everyone appreciates that kind of mild inconvenience. Or nightmare, depending on who you ask. But, 30 days will fly by and before you know it, you’re posting lip-sync videos under a different username.
