Do Not Disturb Not Working in Snapchat—Fix

Snapchat is one of the most revolutionary apps on the internet. It is not only a messaging app, but it is also a fun way to interact with your friends and family. However, you aren’t always available for Snapchat shenanigans.

Sometimes you need some time off, like when you are working or studying. If you want to be left alone and turn off notifications from Snapchat, Do Not Disturb is your friend. This option is ideal for such situations, but unfortunately, it can misbehave.

This article will explain the basics of the Do Not Disturb setting on Snapchat, how to enable it, and what to do in case it isn’t working.

What Is Do Not Disturb on Snapchat?

Do Not Disturb is a clever feature on Snapchat that enables you to mute users or groups. When you enable it, you won’t get any notifications from said people. This is amazing because, otherwise, you would have to delete them from your friends or even block them.

Those actions are more damaging, and they can’t go unnoticed. You might hurt somebodies feelings if you straight up block them. When you put a person or group on Do Not Disturb (DND), they will be none the wiser. No notification or message will alert them.

This feature is not uncommon, and you can see it on many other social platforms like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp. However, it is usually called Mute, but it is essentially the same thing.

When you put someone on DND, they will still be able to message you. You will get no notification, but you can still see the message in your inbox.

How to Enable Do Not Disturb on Snapchat

Make sure you have downloaded and updated Snapchat to the latest version from the official Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Install it on your smartphone and you can proceed to activate Do Not Disturb. Here is how:

  1. Open the Snapchat app on your device.
  2. Go to your friend list.
  3. Select the profile picture of the person you want to put on Do Not Disturb.
  4. Open Settings from the dropdown menu.
  5. Select Do Not Disturb.

You can easily disable DND mode for this person by following the same steps you used to enable it. This way, you can give some person a little timeout, and start getting notifications from them when you are ready.

Suitable Situations for Using Do Not Disturb

Unfortunately, there is no global Do Not Disturb mode, i.e. you can’t put all your Snapchat contacts on it. You have to go and individually mute every person or group that keeps spamming you with notifications.  Hopefully, there aren’t many of them in your friend list.

There are people who are constantly putting out Snapchat stories, which you can mute. Follow the steps from the previous section, and instead of selecting Do Not Disturb, choose Mute Story instead. They will still be your friend, but you won’t see their posts.

If none of this helps and some person is still spamming you or even worse, harassing you, you can permanently block them or remove them from your friend list. Following the same steps as before, choose either Block or Remove Friend instead of Do Not Disturb.

What to Do If Do Not Disturb Is Not Working?

Sometimes Snapchat can misbehave and stop working properly. This is not so common, but sometimes Do Not Disturb mode will not work. You should not continue receiving notifications from someone you have muted. If that starts happening, here are some measures you can take.

First of all, make sure you have installed the latest update from Snapchat. You can even delete Snapchat from your phone and download it again for a clean start. You can also try to force stop the app from your app settings and see if it works.

Secondly, your phone might be acting out. Try to restart it and see if that works. Make sure to download all the updates for your operating system, which should be automatic. Let your phone restart and finish up installing the updates.

Thirdly, other apps may be interfering with Snapchat and its notifications. If you have any third-party apps installed for Snapchat, like Bitmoji, try shutting them down. Maybe even delete them and see if there’s any change. Bitmoji is just an example; it could be an app that lets you send gifs and emojis, change your avatar, etc.

If you have a jailbroken phone, this situation is even more likely to happen. Take all the precautions mentioned until Do Not Disturb on Snapchat starts working again.

Do Not Disturb

Everyone needs some peace and quiet from time to time. There’s nothing wrong about it. Even if you put your close friends or family on Do Not Disturb, it is perfectly understandable. You will unmute them when you are ready. If DND mode stops working all of a sudden, try going through all the steps explained in this article until you fix it.
