How to Fix Instagram Zooming In

Try thinking about all the social media activity that takes place on platforms like Facebook or Instagram in one single day. Just one hour, even. It’s a massive amount of data traffic. And for the most part, every time you log into Instagram, things run smoothly. You scroll down your feed and double tab to like posts.

You go through Instagram Stories and see what people you follow are up to. Oh, but wait, some of these stories looked zoomed in and/or cropped from the sides. Glitches can still happen. And here’s what you need to do to fix them.

Get the Instagram Update

You might be wondering why this is happening. Suddenly, everything is zoomed in. Not only the stories but the rest of the feed too. This often happens to people who’ve just got brand-new phones. And the reason behind it is the growing popularity of ultra-long 18:9 aspect ratio screens. The standard smartphone screen ratio is 16:9. The 18:9 ratio has a lot of advantages to it, like having a better grip and better screen utilization. There’s no doubt many people love the longer and slimmer look of the new kind of smartphones.

But apps and sites are still catching on. Instagram had to update its software to adjust to these changes, as the complaints rolled in. However, if you still get zoomed in Instagram posts and stories, you likely don’t have the latest version of the app. Therefore, go straight to Google Play Store if you have an Android phone and Apple Store if you’re using an iPhone. That should fix your problem.

If the Problem Persists

In the unlikely event of the Instagram update not solving your problem, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling Instagram on your mobile device. This is, surely, a minor inconvenience, if it does require a bit of effort. However, it usually solves most glitches any app is going through.

How to Zoom In/Out in Instagram Stories

What makes you a pro Instagram user? Well, knowing all the features and tricks the app has to offer. With the Boomerang feature and Superzoom camera format, Instagram stories are never dull. But how do you actually zoom in and out?

Normal/Rewind/Boomerang Mode

When you open Instagram and get ready to take a photo or a video, you’re positioned in Normal mode. Just press the record button and use the same finger to slide up and down. This is how you create an Instagram video story and use the zoom in/out feature. Make sure that the finger stays on the record button, though. The same process applies to Instagram Rewind mode and Boomerang.

Hands-Free Mode

Instagram Hands-free mode is very useful when it’s time to video a couple of dozens of Instagram stories. You don’t want your hand getting tired, and risk any shakiness. Plus, you need both of your arms to wave around while explaining why your point of view makes more sense than the other one. When you find the perfect spot for your phone, you need to find the right zoom. In order to do so you can either:

  1. Use your fingers to pinch the screen and zoom in where you want before starting to record the video.
  2. Or press the record button during the making of your hands-free video and sliding it up and down with your finger.

Option B can be a great tool for emphasizing a point or just making funny faces. In any case, zooming in and out when you’re recording an Instagram Story isn’t difficult. All it requires is steady fingers and a little bit of attention.
