How to Hide Hashtags on Instagram

Using too many hashtags can make you look a bit desperate. But, does this mean that there aren’t tricks you can use to still reach a wide audience without having your captions look amateurish?

The short answer to that question is no. This article will show you how to hide hashtags on Instagram as well as answer some other important Instagram post-related questions you might have. Get ready to arm yourself with important Instagram posting knowledge.

Top Two Reasons to Hide Your Hashtags

There are many reasons why you might want to hide your hashtags on Instagram. However, there are only two main reasons why most people do it, whether they’re celebrities or not.

  1. It cleans up your Instagram captions, which in turn makes your post look more professional and eye-catching.
  2. It shifts away the focus from the extensive list of hashtags to the actual content in your caption. A great way to get people to actually read what you have to share.

Hiding Hashtags in Captions

You can hide captions by using the five-dots method. Here’s how it works:

  1. Write a post caption.
  2. Five periods in succession, one per line.
  3. Add your hashtags.

This essentially causes the list of hashtags to collapse. But, are they really hidden? – Only from the direct view. If your followers want to see your hashtags they can reveal the list by clicking the “more” link.

Now, here’s another cool trick you can use. The lines of periods will collapse the hashtags written underneath them. This means that if you want to use a few very popular hashtags and have them visible, you can do that and still hide the rest.

Just add in a few hashtags after your message. Then add the dots, and then the rest of the hashtags.

Hiding Hashtags in a Comment

Instagram has a hashtag limit per post (caption). Bet you didn’t know that you can exceed that limit by using a simple hack. You can use a comment in order to bypass the hashtag limit. And, even better, you can also hide your additional hashtags within the comment.

  1. Write a comment.
  2. Add five periods in succession on individual lines.
  3. Add the hashtags.

The same method for hiding hashtags in captions can be used for comments. You don’t even need to actually write anything in the comment. You can simply start it out with the five dots and then add your extra hashtags.

How Many Hashtags Can You Use?

For captions, you can use a maximum of 30 hashtags. Although any limit might sound like a limiting factor to your potential success, but fear not. Very few popular posts actually reach that 30 hashtags limit. There’s only so much you can come up with what’s relevant to your post and your account activity.

Comments don’t have a hashtag limit. Therefore you can use as many as you can fit within the character limit. On the other hand, you should always leave some room in your captions for new hashtags.

Since you can edit captions and add new hashtags, it’s best if you leave a few openings. Otherwise, the alternative would be to remove old hashtags to make room for the new ones. Here’s how you can edit your post to add new hashtags:

  1. Tap the three-dotted icon.
  2. Tap “Edit.”
  3. Add new hashtags.
  4. Tap “Done” on iOS devices and hit the checkmark on Android devices.
