Is Music Missing From Your Instagram Stories? Here’s a Simple Fix

It doesn’t matter which social media platform or messaging app is your favorite, as they all have stickers. Even if you tried resisting them, there had to have been at least a few that just spoke to you. Instagram Story music sticker is one of the most popular ones in their assortment.

The music sticker means “Volume up, please.” Playing music on Instagram Stories is essential to many people. So, what happens when it goes missing? Not to worry, there are several solutions to this problem, and this article covers them.

Log Out of Instagram

First things first, let’s cover the basics. When was the last time you logged out of Instagram? Probably awhile. It’s a quick and easy fix that might just reset Instagram and bring the music sticker back. Just go to Instagram settings and scroll until you see “Log out.” Tap the button.

Now all you need to do is log back in. Usually, you won’t have to type in your password again, but just in case, make sure that you remember it.

Update Instagram

In case you’ve seen the music sticker in other people’s stories, but you can’t find it yourself, perhaps your Instagram needs an update. If they are not automatic on your smartphone, there is a chance you’ve missed an important one for Instagram, and some other apps too.

To make sure you have the latest version, check the Play Store or App Store to see if there are any updates available. There is a big chance this should solve the missing music sticker mystery.

Reinstall Instagram

If you are sure that you do have the latest version of Instagram, but the music sticker is still not there, perhaps it’s time to reinstall the app. First, you have to uninstall the app from your phone.

After that, go back and download it again from your app store. Many users promise that this is the move that brought back the Instagram story music sticker.

“Borrow” the Sticker

One minute the music sticker was there, and the next it was gone. What happened? There is a chance that it’s just a small glitch in the app. A neat trick that might work in this situation is to use the music sticker from someone else and try to apply it to your Story. Here’s what you do:

  1. Find someone from your contact that is playing music in their Instagram Story.
  2. Tap the name of the song they are playing on the screen.
  3. A window will pop-up and show you the name of the song and artist.
  4. Tap the “Try Music in your Story” icon you see on the screen.

That’s all you need to do. There is a strong possibility that the music sticker will re-appear in your Instagram sticker library.

Switch from Business to Personal Account

Did you recently go from a personal Instagram account to a Business account? If so, the missing Instagram music sticker didn’t switch. Business account users are not permitted to use the music sticker in their Stories.

That’s probably due to some copyright infringement because many of them advertise and sell products on their accounts. Your only option is to switch back from Business to Personal. However, to get the music sticker back, you will have to forgo several features you can only get with the Business account. “Swipe up,” and “Email” are some of them.

Wait It Out

The missing music sticker in your Instagram Story is an inconvenience. But if it was there a while ago, the chances of it returning are high. Sometimes all you need to do is wait a little bit. Probably best not to check every few minutes, though.

Unless Instagram plans to remove the feature altogether, the sticker should return shortly. But if you are impatient, or it is not showing up for days or weeks, you can always contact Instagram directly.

Are You in the Right Region?

One of the more frustrating features of Instagram Story music is that it’s not available worldwide. Unfortunately, it’s only available in several countries. At the moment of writing, the list included the US, UK, Sweden, France, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia.

It’s unclear when the other counties will get the music option, but Instagram has promised to expand the list. So, if you are from one of these countries and traveled somewhere else, that is why the music sticker is missing. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get it back until you return home.

Does This Happen to Other Stickers?

Instagram users have complained about other stickers and feature missing from Instagram. The Question sticker where you allow your followers to ask you questions has also given headaches to some users.

When it launched, it didn’t show up everywhere at the same time. But after a while, IG solved that issue. New stickers might experience the same problem from time to time. And you can always try one of the listed solutions as well.

I used to be able to add music to instagram stories and now it’s not an option. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling. My partner has it so it’s not a region issue. Very frustrating.

Exact same thing. Used Music and Text stickers throughout holiday for stories, now gone and nothing works to bring it back. Very frustrating. Other partners still have it no problem.
