Are you a social media influencer looking to shake up Instagram stories to gain more followers? Or are you an individual wanting to repost a quote that resonates with you?

Reposting a User’s Instagram Story
For you to be able to repost someone’s Instagram story, you first have to be tagged or mentioned in the story itself. When someone posts a story and mentions you in it, you’ll get a notification in Direct Messages. Once you open the message, you’ll see the story and above it an option “Add This to your Story”.
Simply tap on that and their story will now appear on your screen like a sticker. You can then resize it or move it around. Just pinch the screen to resize it or tap it to move it. You also have options to spice up that story by adding stickers, text, or any design you like.
When you’re satisfied, just tap on “Your Story” in the bottom left corner of your screen and there you go! The post is now on your Instagram story, too. When your followers see this post, they’ll also see the original creator’s username. They can tap on it and explore the profile.
Reposting a User’s Instagram Post
You may see a post in your feed that you really like and want to have it on your own story. You’ll be glad to know reposting someone’s post to your Instagram story is possible, too.
The steps are very easy:
- Look for a paper plane icon below a post.
- Tap on it.
- You’ll see “Add Post to Your Story” next to your profile picture. Click on that.
- The post will show as a sticker on your screen.
- You can resize it, move it or add design to it.
- When you’re done, tap on “Your Story”.
Alternatively, you can send that post to some people and not post it on your story. So instead of tapping on “Add Post to Your Story” look for the list of people. Simply click on “Send” next to their photo and the post will be sent only to them.
Note that if the profile of the person whose post you want to share is private, you won’t be able to repost it to your Instagram story. You’ll be able to send it to other people who can see the post only if they’re friends with that person.
Reposting a Video to Instagram Stories
Reposting a video to your story is similar to reposting any photo. When you see the video you like, you’ll also have to click on the paper plane icon. You’ll get the option to share it to your story or send it to individual people. If you want to share it to your story, tap on “Add Post to Your Story”.
However, when you do that, the video on your story won’t be visible as a video, but as a photo. For your followers to see the video, they’ll need to tap on it. Next, they’ll see “View Post”. By clicking on it, they’ll be directed to the original post. The video starts automatically, so they can now see the content you’ve reposted.
If you don’t want to repost the story immediately, but still want to save it for future use, there are options for that, too. You know how stories last for 24h, right? All you have to do in that period is take a screenshot of the story you find interesting and use it whenever you need it.
You can take the screenshot the same way you normally do. When you decide to post that to your story, you’ll have to crop out the edges so that the time, date and other phone icons aren’t visible.
To post a screenshot, follow these steps:
- Open your Instagram.
- Find the Camera icon in the upper left corner of the screen and tap it.
- Swipe from the bottom of your page to see your gallery.
- Find the screenshot you need and click on it.
- The screenshot appears as a sticker on your screen.
- Play around with the design and size until you’re happy with it
- Tap “Your Story” to post it.
Don’t forget to mention the content creator; it’s basic Instagram etiquette.
