How To ‘Save’ An Instagram Photo

Instagram has gradually been scaling up functionality with a series of updates introducing exciting new features like Stories and Collections. However, one of the simplest and yet most anticipated new features is the ability to save or bookmark photos from feeds. It’s so simple that those unfamiliar with Instagram are probably surprised to hear that it wasn’t always a function of the social media service. Alas, users have only been able to save photos since last December.

How to Save a Photo

Don’t worry about downloading any updates. Your phone’s Instagram app already has this feature available.

1. Go to your Instagram feed.

2. Look beneath any photo in this feed. The bookmark button looks like a flag and is to the far right of the like, comment, and share buttons.

3. Tap this symbol. You’ll know the photo is saved when the flag turns black.

How to View Saved Photos

Want to see the photos that you’ve saved for later? No problem.

1. Go to your Instagram profile.

2. Look at the options beneath your profile information but above your photos. The bookmark button is on the far right.

3. Tap it and go to your collection of saved photos.

How to Unsave a Photo

If you’re tired of a certain photo that you used to love, you can remove it in the following way.

1. Go to saved photos (see above).

2. Tap on the photo you want to remove.

3. Tap on the bookmark button again. It should be in the same place as it was when you first saved the photo. You’ll know it worked if the flag turns white.

Can Other People See My Saved List?

No. Your saved photos may consist of other people’s work, but your list is yours alone.

Will I Know If One of My Photos Has Been Saved?

No. Just as others can’t see your list, you can’t know what’s on theirs (even when it comes to photos you’ve shared).

Can I Save My Own Photos?

Yes. You can bookmark your own photos in the same way as you bookmark others.

Why Use This Feature?

Aside from the obvious benefit of being able to save images that make you smile, laugh, or feel inspired, you can use this feature to save posts that link to blogs or other sites that you love. These saved photos essentially act as shortcut buttons to your favorite online content.
