How to See Your Friends' Birthdays on Facebook!

Facebook is a great place to interact with people, no matter how well you know a friend on the platform. It’s easy to send someone a quick note on Facebook, especially on special occasions like birthdays.

With Facebook, wishing your friends a Happy birthday has never been more fun, creative, and convenient, wherever they may be. Many of us aren’t great at keeping track of birthdays, and it’s easy to forget some of them, especially if you have hundreds of Facebook friends.

In this article, we’ll show you how to check your friend’s birthdays through Facebook to wish them the best of happiness on their special day.

How to See Your Friends’ Birthdays On Facebook

Finding the date of someone’s birthday on Facebook is easy, and the process is pretty much the same across devices and operating systems.

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Open the official Facebook website on your PC and log into your account.
    Facebook events
  2. Click on Events and select Birthdays.

  3. Check the birthdays of your friends.

The Birthdays tab is divided into several sections. The first birthdays that pop up are from friends who celebrate their birthdays on that day. It says Today’s Birthdays on top of the tab.

After the Today’s Birthdays tab, you’ll see upcoming birthdays by the profile images of friends celebrating their birthdays through the end of the current month. As you scroll down, you’ll see birthdays later this month and then broken down month-by-month. Facebook will display your friends’ profile pictures by the month in which they celebrate their birthdays.

How to Find a Specific Friend’s Birthday on Facebook

If you want to check the birthday information for a specific friend, you have to open the person’s profile and click or tap the About tab. Go to the Contact and Basic info section. There you will find the personal information made available by that friend, including their workplace, date of birth, job information, etc. Friends can choose what information is displayed publicly, to friends, and so on, so you may not find all the information you need here.

How to Find a Friend’s Birthday From Facebook’s Mobile App

With the latest updates on Facebook’s mobile app, you can no longer view your friend’s birthday information all at once (true to iPhone and Android users). However, you can still check their birthday by visiting their profile. This largely depends on your friend’s privacy settings, whether they want to show their birthday or not.

Supposing that they do, here’s how to find your friend’s birthday in your mobile app:

  1. Launch the Facebook app on your phone and log into your account.
  2. Tap the search button (magnifying glass icon) at the top right corner, and type your friend’s name whose birthday you want to check.

  3. Go to the profile of the person.
  4. Tap the See (name) ‘s About Info
    Facebook account
  5. Scroll down to the Basic info section. Your friend’s birthdate will appear here.

Besides this, if you want to check all upcoming birthdays of your Facebook friends using the app on your phone, there isn’t a straightforward Birthdays option in the events menu as you get on the web version. However, there is a way to check all upcoming birthdays of your friends on the Facebook app.

Follow these steps to do it:

  1. Open the Facebook app on your phone and log into your account.
  2. Tap the search button (magnifying glass icon) at the top right corner, and type Birthdays in the search field.
  3. Select Birthdays.
    Facebook Birthdays
  4. You should see the birthdays of all your Facebook friends.

That’s all there is to it.

Birthday Notifications

If you find the above method a bit too much to do, don’t worry. Facebook always sends daily birthday notifications to remind you who among your friends is celebrating their birthdays.

What if You Can’t Find a Friend’s Birthday Information?

Sometimes, you won’t be able to find birthday information about a friend. Facebook privacy settings make it possible to keep the birthday information hidden. If this is the case, you have a few options.

The first, of course, is to plead ignorance and contact your friend directly to ask them when you can wish them a happy birthday. If this is someone you don’t know very well, you might want to lay low and wait until you see others wishing that person a happy birthday.

Wishing Your Facebook Friends a Happy Birthday

When you want to wish someone a happy birthday on Facebook, you can do it in a few different ways. Of course, there’s no “one-size-fits-all” birthday greeting, so it’s always best to tailor your birthday message to the friend celebrating.

For example, you probably wouldn’t offer the same birthday greetings to your boss as you would your closest best friend. (Or maybe you would- we’re not here to judge!) You can wish someone a happy birthday in the following ways.

Wish Friends Happy Birthdays on Facebook

1. Post Something to Their Wall

If you want to make your birthday wishes available for everyone else to see, you can create an interesting message and post it on the person’s wall. It can be a text message, an image, or even a gif. Facebook will recommend a few festive emojis to throw in there, too. It all depends on your style, creativity, and the impact you want to make.

2. Send a Private Message

Some people like to keep their birthday wishes private. If you are one of them, send a private message using Facebook Messenger. Again, the message can contain an image, a gif, or maybe even a song that means something to both of you. You could also send a quick video or hilariously edited photo to keep the birthday vibe on a high note.

3. Give Your Friends a Birthday Call

Facebook Messenger allows you to call your friends directly, which can be a great option if you’d like to sit down and talk to someone on their special day. You can organize a group call, too, and get the whole gang together on one meaningful birthday call.

4. Post to Your Friend’s Story

You can now post a birthday Story for your friend on Facebook. To do this, tap the Birthday Story for your friend. You can find this icon on the tap of your News Feed. Choose to create a Card or Add Photo. You can then be creative with your birthday greetings by adding any effects, texts, stickers, or emojis you want. Your birthday story will only be visible for 24 hours.

Sending someone a happy birthday message on Facebook takes only a few minutes, but it can mean a lot to the person and your relationship with them. All my friends see under each birthday person a suggestions of photos. But not me. How can I turn that on?

Thanks so much!
This helped so much. BUT, the right side column which used to always have a click on showing whose birthday it is that day has disappeared. I depended on that for the quick pop on, send wishes sessions.

Can you instruct us how to have it appear again? THANKS!

I’ve been trying to find birthdays on Facebook I missed last month. I search for how to find recent birthdays but it seems everyone thinks recent means yesterday only. The past 45 minutes I haven’t found any solution. Your site doesn’t either, it provides only the recent Facebook shows (which on my page doesn’t show last month or the month before just yesterday or day before that. You suggest going to the friends profile (yeah right… I’m really going to do that for every friend in my list to see if I missed their birthday last week [it will be faster just to wait another 11 months for their next birthday] the point is not to miss when offline for a few weeks to go catch up. Is there such a way? Facebook doesn’t provide any answer either (it can’t be that everyone is so f’ing stupid they really don’t know wtf I’m asking can it?) Why aren’t they honest about it and simply say “no” or “I don’t know” instead of showing the same stupid answers 100 times in a row. Thanks either way.
Gretchen Travis says:
Please pick up your phone and try this on the Facebook app. The birthday calendar has been removed from events. Please put it back.
