How To See Your Friends' Location on Snapchat

In the modern, fast-paced world we live in, various types of social media platforms seem to be an inescapable part of our daily routine.

You’ve jolted off to the loo to do the dirty business? Well, now all your friends can know about it in due time! Just make sure you’ve turned on your digital contraption, log in to your social media platform of choice and then simply wait to see who turns up to check on your progress!

Joking aside, the amount of information regarding your current location you’re willing to give out to your social media friends is entirely up to you, so you shouldn’t really worry about getting stalked or otherwise rudely interrupted in the middle of an important meeting, or something.

(At least this should be the case in theory. In practice, some abuses of the locating systems have been reported on several major social media platforms- but that would be a topic for an entirely different article.)

In this article, we’ll talk about Snapchat- an app that allows you to take quick photos which you then send around in hope of meeting new people and getting some sort of points. Lovely stuff!

To be more precise, we’ll talk about Snapchat’s unique locating system which allows you and your friends to find each other even if you’re miles apart!

Right then, let’s see how it works, shall we?

Who Can See Your Location and When You Can See Someone’s Location?

Although the thought of someone knowing your exact location at any given moment may seem spooky and unsafe at first, let’s decipher what is really going on with this Snapchat feature.

The thing is, people can, indeed, see your location, but only if they’re on your friends’ list. If you refuse someone’s friend request, then they won’t be able to know your whereabouts, no matter how hard they tried. (At least, they won’t learn that information through Snapchat!)

Further on, there’s quite a clever and intuitive system in place set by the Snapchat folks, enabling you to perform fine settings in regard to who can and who can’t see where you are at a particular moment. Let’s see how it works in more detail!

Snapchat’s Location Sharing Options

First of all, let’s reiterate: The only way someone can see your location through Snapchat is if you have them as a friend on the platform. Otherwise, it won’t work.

Now that this is out of the way, we can concentrate on some of the more detailed options that Snapchat offers for managing the distribution of your whereabouts-related information. There are several modes you can turn on or off to utilize this to your advantage! It’s quite interesting. Here’s how it works:

Ghost Mode

As you may have guessed from the name itself, Ghost Mode offers you the ability to NOT be seen by anyone at all! (In the sense that your location won’t be seen, not yourself, of course.) If you turn this mode on, not even your friends will be able to find you on the map, so it can be a perfect way to turn off all distractions if you’re at a meeting or a job interview or something of the sort.

My Friends

The ‘My Friends’ mode gives out your location details only to the people who are on your friends’ list. Of course, you’ll have to be logged in and active on your account to be visible. (If you’re logged out or have turned your phone off, you can’t be tracked down.)

Only These Friends…

Allows access to a certain group of friends you’ve previously granted access. So, this option permits only some of your friends to know where you are, while the other ones won’t be notified of your location.

My Friends, Except…

If you’re on good terms with most of your friends but have recently had a scuffle with one of them, you can ban them from seeing your location on Snapchat Map. Simply mark the person you don’t want to share your location with et voila! – You’ll be completely invisible to them!

So, How to Find Your Friends on Snapchat Map?

Quite easily, actually. There are a couple of steps, but nothing too complicated. First, turn on your location on Snapchat, and then simply look at the list of your friends who are currently active! The ones that also have their map locations turned on will show up on your map! Quite easy, isn’t it?

Well, that’d be all folks! We hope you found this article helpful and may you always be in the hub of events with the Snap Map feature!
