How to Video Conference with WhatsApp
When you miss your friends, a group WhatsApp call will make you happy. When you’re working on a project with your coworkers, a quick WhatsApp video conference can help solve the problem. But if you’re new to the app, you might not be sure how to use the WhatsApp video conferencing feature. This article will show you the two ways you can start a WhatsApp video conference call.
Add Participants During a One-on-One Call
Not every video conference call starts as one. Sometimes you’re on a video call with one friend, and during the call, you decide to add another friend to the conversation.
You don’t have to end the call in progress to make it happen. You can call the second friend while you’re talking with the first one. These are the exact steps to follow:
- During the call, tap on the Contact icon on the top right corner of the screen.
- Scroll down to find the contact you want to add to the call.
- Tap on their name and then select “Add.”
- A screen will split into three parts while you wait for your friend to answer.
- If they don’t pick up, you can select “Cancel,” and the screen will go back to the way it was.
Bear in mind that the maximum number of people on a WhatsApp video call is four. Also, once someone answers your video call, you can’t kick out of the conversation. They have to end the call.
If any of the participants want to turn off their video, they can tap the “video off” button on the screen. They will remain in the call, though.
Group Video Conference
You can video conference with people from one of your WhatsApp groups, too. Since the number of participants in a WhatsApp video call is limited to four, there’s still no designated group video call button. Instead, this is what you’re supposed to do:
- Launch WhatsApp on your mobile device and open the group chat.
- Tap on the headphone icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- From the popup menu, select the contacts you want to call.
- Tap on the video call icon.
However, when you’re receiving a video call, you’ll immediately see all the participants on the screen. And the person who added you will be listed first.
One of the more significant challenges of video conferencing is the strength of the internet connection. According to WhatsApp, the video call quality depends on the weakest participant’s connection.
WhatsApp Desktop App and Web Site
WhatsApp also offers the web version and the desktop app. Both options are an excellent choice if you’re working in an office setting. It means you can set your phone aside and still stay in contact with whom you want.
But can you make video calls with WhatsApp web and desktop app? Unfortunately, no, but WhatsApp might introduce this feature in the future. WhatsApp is famous for listening to its users’ suggestions and requests.
Staying Connected with WhatsApp Group Calls
It might seem a bit limiting to put a cap on group video calls at four people. However, WhatsApp is not a video call app; its focus is on text messaging. And realistically, adding too many people to a video call can be disruptive, especially in a professional environment.
