How Many People Can You Add to WhatsApp Group Video Calls?

WhatsApp allows end-to-end encrypted group voice calls with up to 32 members. This feature is free for all, meaning anyone can make free video calls with up to 32 participants.

However, there is one catch: only eight members can stay active in a video call simultaneously. So at any given time, the video feed of seven other people will be visible apart from you.

How to Make a Group WhatsApp Video Call on iPhone

Starting a WhatsApp group video call on an iPhone is as simple as making a standard call. You can do group video calls on WhatsApp for iPhone in two ways: From the Calls section or a group chat. Make sure to find your friends on WhatsApp if you are short of people to do a group video call.

  1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and go to the Calls section at the bottom.
  2. Tap the phone with plus sign button in the top right corner.
  3. Select the New Group Call option.

  4. Add participants from the list of your contacts that you want to add. You can search for people by typing their names in the top search bar.
  5. You can add people to the call by tapping the circles next to their names. WhatsApp allows video calls with up to eight members.
  6. Once done, tap the video camera button to start the group video call.

You can also make a group video call directly from a group conversation in WhatsApp. Go to the Chats section at the bottom and select the group conversation you want to video call. Next, tap the Video call button in the group chat if it’s a group with 32 or fewer members. If the group has more than 32 members, you will see a Group call with a plus button. Select up to 32 group members to make a conference call, and then tap the Video call button.

How to Make a Group WhatsApp Video Call On Android

Making a group WhatsApp video call on Android is pretty straightforward and intuitive. Like on iPhone, you can make a group call on WhatsApp from the calls section as well as from a group chat.

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to the Calls section.
  2. Tap the phone with plus sign button in the bottom right corner.
  3. Select New Group Call.
  4. Add participants from your contacts. You can also search and find your friends by typing their names via the search option at the top right corner.
  5. Tap on the participant’s name to select them for the call. You can select up to seven members for a group call.
  6. Tap the video camera button to start a group call.

There is also an option to make a video call directly from the group chat. To do that, navigate to the Chats section at the top and select a group conversation you want to video call. Next, tap the Video call button for a group with 32 or fewer participants. For a group with more than 32 members, choose up to 32 participants, tap the Video call with a plus button, and select the Video call option.

How to Add More People to a One-on-One WhatsApp Video Call

If you’ve already started a WhatsApp video call and wish to add more participants to the call, follow these steps:

  1. Once you’re on the call, swipe up the floating menu at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Add participant option.
  3. Select the contact you want to add to the video call, and tap Add.
  4. You may get a pop-up asking if you want to add the selected person to the call. Tap Add to allow them to join.

The steps to add more participants to a one-on-one WhatsApp video call are the same for Android and iPhone.

Can You Make Group Video Calls Using WhatsApp Web From Your PC or Laptop?

No, you can’t use WhatsApp Web to make group video calls. You can only use WhatsApp web to receive and send messages and media files.

The process of making WhatsApp video calls on the desktop app is the same as the mobile version. Go to the Chats section and select a group conversation. Click on the Video call button in the top-right corner to start a group video call.

You can also make a group video call from the Calls section of WhatsApp’s desktop app. Click the Create call link button and select Video as the call type. Anyone with the link can join the group video call across all supported platforms: iPhone, Android, and desktop. Like on the other platforms, only eight members can stay active on a video call at one time on WhatsApp’s desktop version.
